Bridget has been trawling through Palmstead today, doing a final inspection of the plants there, swapping out(I believe that is a technical term)ones that just don’t cut the show garden mustard as well as searching for the elusive Cornus sanguinea

Yesterday we went to Chelsea to meet our contractor, Andrew Ball from BigFish Landscapes, Jenny and Liz from the RHS, Matilda (GWL social media) as well as the other ‘Metamorphosis’ designers (Caspian, Jo, and Lucinda and their contractors)

Creating the sculpture has been a joyous diversion from the tedium of paperwork associated with preparing a show garden. I was up very late a few nights ago preparing a rough draft of the risk assessment for the site, oh the glamour!     Our sculpture

We finally got going on the shou sugi ban, flaming the wood fencing to produce a rich black sheen.  As the  flames lick the wood the resin heats up and forms a protective barrier, probably quicker and cheaper than paint…..and the effect is stunning.
